Sydney Blue Sox

14 January 2012

My husband is a HUGE baseball fan.  I don't think there's any possible way to overstate this.  He has a daily countdown to spring training.  Spring training.  {Who does that???}  He loves everyday of the baseball regular season, everyday of the post season, every game of the World Series {even if the Yankees aren't in it}, and then gets majorly depressed the day after the World Series {even if the Yankees win} because it means that baseball is finished for the next five months.

So, you can imagine how excited he was to discover that Sydney has a baseball team.  Granted, the ABL {Australian Baseball League} was only started two years ago, and there are only 6 teams in the whole country, but it's baseball nonetheless.

Last night, we went to see them play.  Actually, let me back up a second.  When we decided to order tickets online {like two weeks ago}, we had a good laugh because we were able to purchase 'Behind the Plate' tickets for only $35.00 each.  To put that in perspective, those same tickets would be about $500 each at Yankees stadium. Then, a few days after purchasing the tickets, Jeff gets a personal email from the club's Manager thanking him for his support of the Sydney Blue Sox and giving us our seat assignments.  Wow!  Baseball certainly isn't popular in Australia.

Our seats

The game was good fun.  I kept joking with Jeff beforehand that he should play for them {he's a former baseball superstar.}  He did not find it very funny and told me that I'd be surprised how good they are.  Said they were at least Single A or Double AA level players in the US system.  After watching the game, I'd say the truth is somewhere in between.  The pitchers were throwing 88 mph fastballs and 79 mph change-ups {pretty fast.}  However, there were an awful lot of bloopers, dropped balls, errors, bad throws, etc.  So I'm not totally convinced.  Not to mention, the players were using the same concession stand as the fans.  Ummm, if that doesn't scream amateur to you, I don't know what does.

Our smiling faces

All in all, it was a fun little date night.  The other neat thing about the Blue Sox baseball diamond was that you could still see the faded Olympics logo from the Sydney 2000 summer olympics.  We both really enjoyed seeing baseball's definitely been too long.  In fact, let's just check with Jeff to find out how many days until spring training.  Honey, how many days until spring training?  47.  Which means televised, major league baseball will be back in our household before you know it.  Then all will be right with the world :)

Romance + Creativity + Moves Like Jagger

13 January 2012

Okay, how freakin' cute and romantic is this?

Even cuter?  My husband sent me this to watch.  He told me it made him a little misty eyed.  He is a hopeless romantic at heart...and I love him for it.

Breakfast Confessions

I ate three cookies for breakfast.  One chocolate chip and two M&M.  That's it.

What am I going to do when I have children and need to set a good example for them?  Start binging on cookies in the bathroom? Kidding.  Kinda.

The weather is kinda blah today.  Overcast and slightly cool.  Perfect weather for laying on the couch all morning, which is precisely what I've done {as if I needed encouragement.}  It's 12:40pm and I've yet to do my 'morning' meditation.  So I suppose that'll be first on the list, followed by some more blogging, and reading Hunger Games.

I hope y'all have a great weekend!

My life in 60 seconds...{part 2}

12 January 2012

About one year into living in SoCal, I met Jeff.  He was handsome, interesting, liked good music, had a great job.  He's now my husband. {We'll save all the in-between details for another time.}

After a couple years of working at the horse ranch in SoCal {horse people are crazy}, it was time to get a 'grown-up' job.  Not to mention, Jeff and I had been doing a 'semi' long distance relationship for a year and were sick of the commute {okay, it was only 90 miles.  but in LA traffic.}  Some searching and job hopping eventually led me to my current career in sales.  I LOVE my job!  I get to work with doctors, nurses, and related staff to educate them on the medications, dosages, side effects, patient type, etc.

My first year at the job was pretty stellar and I won a company-wide award.  Because of that award, I got to go to Amsterdam to work a conference.  While there, I met some colleagues from our Australia office.  Jeff and I had always talked about wanting to live overseas if we could make it work with either of our careers.  So I networked with the Aussies and told them I'd love to come work for them {thinking nothing would come of it.} Six months go by, and I get an email telling me about a few open positions in Sydney.  We jumped at the opportunity and did everything in our power to make it work {subleasing the apartment, storing the car, arranging for the dogs to stay with my sister, and a million other things that you don't realize until you plan to move across the planet.}

We've been living in Sydney for 6 months now {gosh it goes by quickly} and am loving the experience.  It's finally summer and Jeff & I are taking full advantage of the beach.  After living through two straight winters {granted they were mild} in LA then's so unbelievably nice to feel warm.

Now that we're all caught up, expect some posts about life Down Under!

Morning Inspiration

What an inspirational reminder to wake-up to this morning!

I definitely needed this message today...because the hubby and I are going to a baseball game tonight and I was just thinking in the shower "I know Jeff is going to want souvenirs, and we'll probably end up eating out, and this whole thing is going to cost more money than I'd like...." You get the picture.  We have enough money and the tickets are already purchased so I may as well ENJOY it, rather than let my mind wander to the imperfections.

May we live each day in the present moment....not brooding over the past, or planning over the future.

Hide yo kids, Hide yo wives!

As seen on George Street, Sydney CBD. Such cool advertising and artwork!
